AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

27-year-old Nathan Williams who escaped from the Sumter County C. I. Monday, was recaptured about 10:00 Tuesday morning. Little did he know that he was scheduled to be released from prison two days later.

He was found hiding behind Peacock's garage, near some railroad tracks, in Americus.

Williams was cutting grass and working out in the yard near the C. I. when he was reported missing around 2:00.

Williams, a minimum security inmate, was in jail for theft by conversion from Union County. He and at one other inmate were cutting the grass off McMath Mill Road near the correctional institute. The other detainee reported him missing.

Martin Peacock, the owner of Peacock Garage, says Williams came into his shop asking for a ride to the bus station in Cordele. He called the sheriff's office for assistance.

Williams was supposed to get out of jail Wednesday.
