News Release from the Louisiana State Police

Following a traffic stop on Interstate 12 Sunday evening, Louisiana State Police Troopers arrested Melissa Byington, 40, of Lake Park, GA, after the discovery of 31 pounds of Marijuana in her vehicle.

The traffic stop occurred yesterday shortly before 8:00 pm on Interstate 12 approximately one mile east of Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish.

Upon observing a traffic violation, troopers stopped the 2008 Dodge Charger driven by Byington in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 12.

During the course of the traffic stop, Byington consented to a search of her vehicle leading to the discovery of the Marijuana in her trunk.

Byington was placed under arrest and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana.
