A judge dismisses a lawsuit in Lanier County commissioners filed claiming the sheriff is spending too much money.
The commissioners wanted a judge to order Sheriff Nick Norton to stick within the spending level they set.
They asked for a writ of mandamus. Judge Ronnie Joe Lane says mandamus doesn't apply in this case.
Sheriff Norton's attorney Bill Stone says he will request a hearing to compel commissioners to adopt a budget amendment to provide the Sheriff with adequate funding.
Stone says it probably won't do any good for this fiscal year because it's almost over.
The sheriff's office remains essentially shut down because it's out of money.
The county commission's attorney says the order has no effect on the commission's vote to limit the sheriff's spending for the remainder of the fiscal year.
