VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  Valdosta State head basketball coach Mike Helfer has built a winning program in his five seasons.

That is evident not only with the Blazers success during the regular season but also during the summer.

Valdosta State basketball program hosting 40 high schools for their annual team camp this weekend.

Coach Helfer says that is the most schools who the camp has had.

Coach Helfer says that is a credit to the Blazers program and the hard work from his staff including assistant coach Nick Gast.

The teams are in Valdosta to play games that help prepare for next year.

The Blazers are able to show coaches and players what Valdosta State has to offer.

Mike Helfer said. "It gives them a chance to interact with the coaches. Build those relationships that can help you down the road maybe in recruiting or in other areas. For me, I am just glad we can provide somewhere in the area where coaches can feel comfortable bringing their kids to that helps their program in the summer."

The VSU team camp runs through Saturday at VSU, Lowndes and a local rec center.
