SUMTER COUNTY, GA (WALB) - A Sumter County family is grateful for a spruced-up home thanks to the Fuller Center and some kind-hearted high scholars.

Teenagers from First United Methodist Church in Bossier City, Louisiana spent the week repairing the home of Mamie Prater and her son Ted Bateman in the Forest Park Community.

The volunteers put in new windows a door and painted the home.

They presented the family with a bible, sang songs, and surrounded the home in prayer at the  dedication.

"I do this kind of work but they wouldn't let me do anything," said Ted Bateman. "They kept telling me to sit down because I've worked enough. I feel like they gave back to me what I've been giving all the while."

Bateman plans to return the favor and help another Sumter County homeowner.
