Lowndes County agencies got prepared for hurricane season Thursday at an annual planning meeting.
A meterologist with the National Weather Service gave an update on this year's hurricane season to nearly 20 agencies at Lowndes County's annual briefing.
Experts predict 12 to 18 named storms with 6 to 10 hurricanes.
"What we really want people to understand is that even though we're expecting an active season even if we have an inactive season it only takes one storm to cause significant damage in South Georgia North Florida," said Kelly Godsey, a National Weather Service meterologist.
The experts remind us that even tropical storms can cause a lot of damage and we shouldn't get complacent just because we're in a drought.
