CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Crisp Academy is celebrating their first ever GISA state baseball title.
The Wildcats are wanting to return as one of the top Class A powers in football.
Crisp Academy has recently hired Mike Ellis to lead their football program.
Ellis was a head coach for four years at Fitzgerald High School during the mid 1980's.
The Wildcats won back to back state titles in 2001 and 2002.
The program has fallen on tough times.
Crisp Academy has just three wins in their last three varsity seasons and two years ago played a j.v. Schedule.
Coach Ellis knows the job ahead is tough but believes the state championships in other sports can help the football program turn the corner.
Mike Ellis said. "Try to copy these basketball players that won the state championship. Girls basketball won the state championship. Work with some young kids and get them out. Grow and try to win championships."
