ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Three people are in jail charged in connection with a trailer theft ring.

Albany Police say a man and woman stole several flat bed trailers in Dougherty and Lee counties and tried to sell them.

Maurice Dontae Williams and 19-year-old Donessa Walker are charged with theft by taking, with others charges likely to follow.

Detectives say the pair struck places such as the Albany Sand Dunes, M&M Mars, and Home Depot's parking lot where the snatched the trailers right off vehicles.

Some of the trailers were carrying lawn mowers and 4-wheelers, but none of them were latched a lock.

"This investigation has actually been ongoing for about 2 weeks now. We've had video surveillance on the suspect vehicle but we were able to locate the vehicle that had a stolen tag on it, which lead to actual suspects that had been stealing the trailers," said Detective Tim Harvey, APD.

The gray Dodge Durango driven by Williams was impounded by police. Inside they found several tags removed from stolen trailers.

Police also arrested 59-year-old Willie B.  Sanders on charges of theft by receiving. Officers found several stolen trailers being stored on his property.

"We believe there are many other stolen trailers from the exact same people. So if anyone has bought trailers from the subjects, please bring them forward so we can find out who legally owns them," Harvey said.

Anyone who believes they purchased a trailer from Williams or Walker is asked to call Albany Police at 431-2100.
