SEACAUCUS, NJ (WALB) - Berrien High's Larry Greene, Junior had a long wait at the Major League Baseball draft studios in New Jersey.
But after waiting through 38 picks, the outfielder finally heard his name called by the Philadelphia Phillies in the compensation phase of the first round.
The Phillies have a home run friendly park for left handed hitters.
Larry Greene, Junior could be the next left-handed slugger in the Phillies lineup.
Greene hit 19 homeruns and batted over .560 this year for the region champion Berrien Rebels.
He signed to play at Chipola Junior College in January but seems likely headed to the Phillies minor league system if he and the team can work out a contract.
Larry Greene, Junior also not forgetting his mother Denise who died from diabetes complication on December 26th of last year.
