VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta Police officers arrested a man they've wanted on outstanding warrants last Thursday, and added numerous charges after he struck an officer as they questioned him at a traffic stop.

Ricky Bernard Barron, Jr. had his child in the vehicle when he was taken into custody.

 

The following is the Official Valdosta Police report of the incident:

 

On June 2, 2011, Valdosta Police Department narcotics detectives observed Ricky Bernard Barron, 34 year old Valdosta resident, driving a vehicle in the city limits. 

Detectives were aware that Barron had outstanding arrest warrants for Trafficking Cocaine, Tampering With Evidence, Obstruction, and Reckless Driving. 

A traffic stop of Barron was initiated near the intersection of West Street and Gordon Street.  Barron struck a police vehicle with his vehicle but was detained after a brief struggle with officers. 

In addition to the outstanding arrest warrants, Barron was charged with Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute, Tampering with Evidence, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Obstruction and Reckless Conduct. 

Barron had his 4 year old child in his vehicle at the time of the incident.  No injuries were reported during this incident. 

Barron is currently being held at the Lowndes County Jail.
