A brief but violent storm that passed over Adel Monday about 5:30PM tore up signs, roofs, and may have sparked a fire that destroyed a vacant building.

The former office of Dr. Albert Garcia was gutted by a blaze that Adel Fire officials say may well have started from a lightning strike. The vacant structure at 901 North Harris Avenue appears to be a total loss. Firefighters were still checking for hot spots Tuesday morning.

The Puddleville Junction Hotdog store's roof was nearly peeled off by the high winds. The Taco Bell sign and a billboard near Interstate 75 were also severely damaged.

At least two mobile homes suffered significant damage on County Farm Road. One of the homes was severely damaged when a tree fell on it. No injuries were reported.

Jade Bulecza will have more on the damage in Cook County later on WALB.
