The Albany State Youth Sports Program set sail on its 36th year on Monday providing not only sports training but academic classes as well. Around 500 kids came out to Monday's orientation at Albany State. The five week program offers everything from basketball, tennis and swimming classes to math, health and science classes as well.
Over 220 universities once offered these services but Albany State is now 1 of only 17 schools to do so. Organizers say the program plays an essential role in the community.
Jesse Massey said "It occupies the time of the young people from 8 to 3 we have approximately 450 to 500 kids involved in positive things."
The free program is in need of funds. To donate call the athletic office at (229) 430-4754
