Dougherty County employees will not face as numerous furlough days as feared thanks to an amendment in a contract the county has with Phoebe Putney Hospital.
The county contracts with Phoebe to provide health care services to jail inmates. Phoebe agreed to drop the contract price from $1.8 million to $875,000.
That gives commissioners $930,000 more for the county budget which may allow the county to avoid any unpaid holidays for the 600 county employees.
"It's a win win situation for the citizens of Dougherty County and our inmates that are incarcerated at the jail, because of the attention the receive now for the medical staff," said Dougherty Co. Sheriff Kevin Sproul.
The changes to the contract would go into effect July 1st.
