City and county employees rolled up their sleeves Friday to give back to the community.

Blood donations often fall to critical levels over the summer months when blood is needed the most.  Because of so many disasters and more people traveling, the American Red Cross say they need people to roll up their sleeves.  The city and county annually host a joint blood drive giving employees time during their day to donate.

"It's always important to give back to the community and especially during this time as Mr. Miller the representative from America Red Cross said it's a critical time to give blood so this is just a small way that we try to give back," said Jawahn Ware, Dougherty County HR Project Manager.

With an hour to go Friday, 48 employees had already made a donation.  Thursday 22 county employees at Public Works held a separate drive.
