Lawmakers gather at Legislative Lunch

Thursday, legislators gave local leaders a report on what went on and what didn't go on during this year's general assembly at the annual legislative luncheon.

It's a chance for local leaders to say thank you to legislators for taking their concerns to the governor.

This year there were several bills that were proposed and passed that are of much interest to our area, such as Sunday Alcohol Sales, changes to the HOPE scholarship and the immigration bill.

However, the majority of this years session was focused on the budget.

"Nobody wins when there is a shortfall of revenue," said State Senator Freddie Powell Sims. "But I think they did a very good job in putting the dollars where they needed to be."

Some of those bills that didn't make it far were on transportation, trauma care, and how to revamp tax codes.
