Around 5:30 Wednesday night an Atkinson County deputy responded to a domestic call on Mora Road.

That road runs between Coffee and Atkinson counties. Investigators say when Chief Deputy Eugene Paulk got there, Vernon Matthews came out from the back of the trailer. They say he then fired two or three shots at Paulk with a shotgun. Paulk was unharmed.

Paulk called for back up. Coffee County investigators made a tactical entry into the home and arrested Matthews.
