A teenager hurt in a wreck in Colquitt County late Tuesday night is now in a coma.

Fifteen year old Jacob Sutton of Ellenton was driving a Ford 1520 farm tractor when he was struck by a pickup truck.

He was airlifted to Tallahassee where he underwent brain surgery overnight.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Ellenton-Omega Road and Roundtree Bridge Road.

Troopers say the truck driver, 73-year-old William Lindsey told officers he noticed the tractor in front of him, but got distracted by something in the field for a second, and before he knew it, he had collided with the tractor.

His grandparents say this accident is heartbreaking, but they want to set the record straight; They say Jacob always took the necessary safety precautions when he was on his tractor.

"We are all torn up about it, but we have no animosity whatsoever towards our neighbor, because it was an accident," said Franklin Sutton, Jacob's Grandfather.

His grandparents say Sutton did have his slow moving vehicle sign on during the time of the accident.  "I think at the time of the impact that sign did fall off of it but the sign was on it at the time of the accident," said his Grandmother Bobbery Sutton.

Mr. Lindsey was injured in the accident as well but he was treated and released. Troopers say speed was not a factor and no charges have been filed yet.
