As the temperature rises this time of year, the American Legion summer league is also heating up in South Georgia.
Post 182 out of Leesburg had its opening ceremony and exhibition game Sunday at Cavalier Field in Albany. It was the junior team getting the best of senior team 12-2 in today's scrimmage. High school players from all over South Georgia are taking advantage of the extra time on the diamond.
Post 182 head coach Larry Cook said "I think a lot of them are appreciative of the program. A lot of athletes have come along and gone to the pro level. A lot of college players have gotten college scholarships out of the American Legion program. It's just a good organized league for these kids to hone their skills with."
Post 182 will open its regular season with Post 30 out of Albany Tuesday at Paul Eames park.
