Knights comeback falls short

PERRY, GA (WALB) -  This time is was the Deerfield-Windsor baseball team making a late inning charge against Westfield

The Hornets hold on to win game 2 9-7 and win the GISA AAA state baseball championship.

The Knights were the home team in game 2 and scored the first run on a sacrifice fly by Rhett Cooper in the bottom of the first.

The Hornets scored two runs in the second to take their first lead.

Westfield added two more on a two run homerun by Brandon Bailey in the third.

The Hornets long ball barrage continued in the 4th with a solo homerun by Alex Smith and a two run blast from Lane Dixon.

Westfield had a 7-1 lead and looked to cruise to a state title.

The Knights though scored four runs on one hit in the 5th inning.

Westfield scored a run in the 6th and the Knights added another on a single by Michael Laslie.

Banks Kinslow scored for the Knights but Davis Moore was tagged out at home for the final out of the inning.

Westfield added another run to make it 9-6 in the top of the 7th.

Banks Kinslow dropped a two out single in the bottom of the seventh to score Matt Moree.

Knights had the bases loaded but Westfield pitcher Josh Mullis snared a hard hit ground ball by Davis Moore and sprinted to first for the final out of the game.

Westfield wins the GISA AAA state championship.

Deerfield-Windsor finishes the season 20-8.
