For years, the area right across the street from the RiverQuarium has been rundown, but that's changing.

Dorothy Hubbard, mayoral candidate and Albany City Commissioner, said Friday it's time to get serious about getting rid of the old Heritage House Hotel.

She says the Heritage House has been an eyesore for too long and the people of Albany want the blighted property demolished.

She's calling on the City commission to appoint a special counsel to push the matter through court as quickly as possible.

"We are going to ask Mr. Davis that we need to have his new staff attorney, that way we will not have to incur any additional costs. But we need to let everybody know that we are serious."

Hubbard has served Ward Two on the city commission for six years. Last month, she announced plans to run for mayor.
