A wildfire fire started around seven o'clock Thursday night near the fairgrounds just southeast of Tifton, and burned out of control for several hours. We're told several structures have burned, but we're not sure if they were homes or sheds.
At 11:00 p.m., more than 40 firefighters were still on the scene, though by then they had the fire contained.
U.S. Highway 82 was blocked. Traffic was directed around New River Church Road over to Highway 319. Firefighters don't know what caused the fire.
