A former Albany Police Officer is accused of blackmailing his own mother.

36-year old Marshall Adam Darrah was indicted for theft by extortion.

Darrah was an Albany Police officer in 2005 and 2006 and a Lee County Sheriff's Deputy for a short time.

Investigators say Darrah worked with two other men, Yapphet Calhoun and Terrance Stephens,  who demanded money from Darrah's mother.

They claimed they would hurt Darrah if she didn't pay up.

Prosecutors say Darrah needed the money for drugs.
