CAMILLA, GA (WALB) - The Westwood baseball team has a chance to finish one of the greatest turnarounds in GISA baseball history Thursday.

Westwood plays at Crisp Academy for the GISA Class A state title.

The state championship appearance for Westwood comes one season after the team won just two games last season.

This year, the Wildcats have 18 wins and 4 losses.

Westwood split their regular season games with region rival Crisp Academy.

Westwood head coach Al Timmerman says his team it seems has stepped up their game in the state playoffs and he knows that has to continue against Crisp Academy.

Head coach Al Timmerman said. "We're doing a lot of things right here at the latter stages of the year. We're making good plays on defense. We're getting good starting pitching, our bats are coming around. We've progressively gotten better as the season has gone along."

Pitcher Jake Edore said. "I knew we had some good talent coming in from different schools and then I knew the experience that our young guys had that we would have a pretty good year."

Westwood and Crisp Academy play a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. Thursday.
