Firefighters assist in controlled burn

A controlled burn got a little bit out of control Monday as one farmer burned his field.

Smoked billowed in the air on Highway 32 between Lover's Lane and Philema road Monday afternoon.

Turns out a farmer was burning his field. He was afraid the smoke was getting too close to his hay stacks so he called in the Lee County Fire Department to get the flames under control.

With conditions so dry, the smoke spread faster than expected. Everything is under control now.
