For years, the area right across the street from the RiverQuarium has been rundown, but that's changing.

There'll county fire crews battled a powerful Wild fire. Flames spread through the fields near Willbur Gamble Park. Thick smoke made it hard to see anything. Officials say that a combine fire sparked the blaze.

The fire became so unruly that crews  neighboring stations and counties like Randolph, Sumter, and Lee County were brought in. The crews worked hard to put out the fires and its hot spots and to prevent spreading. Although this type of fire is common in There'll county this fire is the largest Dawson has seen in a very long time.

What also makes this fire so difficult is the large area it covered. The flames swept through about 200 acres…Destroying three abandoned homes and countless number of trees.

Another sign of what lingering dry conditions can create.
