Lady Blazers are off to regionals

Posted: Updated:

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  Valdosta State left Wednesday for Huntsville, Alabama and the Division II softball south regionals.

The Lady Blazers open the regionals Friday against Barry University.

But VSU knows regional host Alabama-Huntsville is likely the team they have to beat in order to get the super regionals.

After losing four straight to the Chargers in the regular season, the Lady Blazers beat UAH on their way to winning a third straight Gulf South Conference title.

That win in the conference tournament gives VSU confidence they can beat their biggest rival on their turf.

Pitcher Margaret Carter said. "We are definitely wanting to beat Barry but we are looking on to the greater picture with Huntsville and hopefully we will come out on top.

Catcher Ashley Steinhilber said. "Huntsville is always a big game every year. They are a great team. They have a great coaching staff. We beat them last weekend and they are going to want it but we are going to want it more this weekend."

VSU will play Barry at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Huntsville and UAH plays Fort Valley State.
