Walmart officials will open their second Albany store with a Grand opening ceremony at 7:30 a.m., May 18. The store will be open for business at 8:00AM.

The store will include a full line of groceries, a bakery, deli, and more than 30 merchandise departments. The store will also include a Subway restaurant and an arcade.

The store is located at 262 Cordele Road, Albany, and covers 150,000-square-feet. It will be open from 6 a.m. until midnight, seven days a week.

The store has a pharmacy located near the center of the store, a significantly expanded electronics department, a Walmart Wireless store and Game Play arcade.

It brings 250 planned new jobs, and will employ approximately 300 overall.

$7,000 in grants will be distributed to several area organizations, including the City of Albany Fire Department, the Dougherty County Fire Department and Lily Pad.

"The newly constructed Walmart in East Albany has transformed a blighted area to a major shopping area, and created approximately 250 new jobs. I believe that the new store will also serve surrounding towns thus drawing more revenue to the city," said Albany Mayor Willie Adams.
