ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Sherwood Christian Academy moved quickly to fill the head coach opening for the Eagles football team.
The Eagles announced Thursday assistant coach Otis Covington has been promoted to head coach.
Sherwood Christian headmaster Dr. Glen Schultz says the school notified parents Thursday afternoon of Covington's appointment.
According to Dr. Schultz, Covington served as the offensive coordinator in his first season with the Eagles program.
Dr. Schultz says the school would like to keep that system intact as much as possible.
Covington takes over for Reginald Mitchell.
Mitchell is waiting for the Tift County school board to approve his hiring to be the defensive coordinator for the Tift County High football team.
Dr. Schultz also announced that Lee County recreation director Eddie Dixon will be the new Sherwood Christian Athletic director.
WALB News Ten Sports will talk to Dixon about the move on Friday.
