ALBANY, GA (WALB) - University of Georgia commit Ray Drew hopes to be remembered not only as one of the best defensive ends to ever play at TC Central but also as the state's top discus thrower.
Drew is currently 2nd in the nation with a throw of 201.2 feet in the region meet last week at Hugh Mills Stadium.
His best throw this year is just 3 feet short of the state record ironically held by former Georgia football player Hiawatha Berry.
Drew will go for the record at the boys state track meet Thursday in Jefferson.
Ray Drew said. "I have a chance in getting it and to be able to say that I was the best in the state of Georgia has ever seen come through in the discus would be big time for me."
Coach David Johnson said. "He's number 2 right now in the discus throw makes him extra ordinary and I hope he goes through advance his education and become a better person."
Ray Drew says he will throw the discus for the Georgia track team next spring.
