LEESBURG, GA (WALB) – Lee County Commissioners began going over next year's budget Tuesday afternoon as they work to balance spending without a tax increase. The Finance Committee heard from some department heads at its first budget hearing as commissioners decide how much to spend on public safety, public works, recreation and other things.
Requests for next year exceed this year's budget by 2-million dollars. County Administrator Tony Massey said, "there's a bit of a task ahead about finding two million dollars worth of cuts for all the different requests, so that at the end of the day we have a balanced budget." He said the final version of the budget will be much different than what they're working with now.
The Finance Committee will hold seven budget work sessions over the next two weeks.
