With the help of Albany area businesses, the MCLB Officers' Spouses' Club raised money for student scholarships and charities.

Tuesday the club hosted a luncheon to award scholarships to nine students and money for five charities. The club held an auction in March that raised $11,000 that was split among the group.

Tuesday students with a military connection at Lee County High, Albany High, Sherwood Christian Academy, Dougherty High, Worth County High, and Monterey Peninsula School received their scholarships.

"With the economy it's hard and so we like to assist those students who are trying to go to college and pursue their education and for the local charities it's always nice to give back," said B.J. Williams, MCLB Officers' Spouses' Club.

The club gave donations to Girls Incorporated, First Tee of Albany, the American Red Cross, the Lily Pad, and Lee County Female Minority Mentoring Program.

Scholarship recipients were: Cara Walker, Lee County High School; Jacqueline Childress, Albany High School; Allison O'Connor, Sherwood Christian Academy; Thomas Gridley, Dougherty High School; Sara Crew, Worth County High School; Adrian Gavre, Lee County High School; Logan Clevenger, Monterey Peninsula School; Rachel Melcher, Lee County High School Sydney Bailey, Lee County High School.
