After losing most of its starters on defense, the Albany State Ram football didn't have to go far to add some talent to its secondary. Westover defensive back Chuck Lewis has signed on to play cornerback for the Rams.
Lewis was one of the Patriots' most dynamic players on defense and hopes to bring some toughness to what was the SIAC's number one defense last season. Lewis suffered a shoulder injury his senior year and is glad that the Rams still gave him a shot.
Lewis said "I feel great, I'm really glad I got a chance to sign with Albany State. I didn't think it was going to happen because of my shoulder injury but they're taking a chance on me and I'm going to go out there and do my best."
Over at Monroe high, Lady Tornadoes guard Jessica Burks will be heading to Americus next season. Burks signed on to play basketball at Georgia Southwestern State. She was one of the team's leaders in almost every offensive category and was also Monroe's best defensive player. Burks says the choice to play for the Lady Canes was an easy one.
Burks said "It was like a family, the team was very great. They had a great campus, great rooms overall my experience was wonderful. I love the team, coach was great and I felt welcomed."
Burks will compete for the Lady Canes starting point position next season.
