A South Georgia semi-pro football team is reaching out to people affected by those deadly twisters in Alabama and North Georgia.

Players and coaches with the Georgia Firebirds were at Brodie field in Tifton today collecting relief supplies.

The owner says he wants the team to play an important role in the community.

After the players collect items such as water, medical supplies and non-perishable food they'll take a charter bus to devastated areas to deliver the supplies Sunday.

They plan to stay all day and help with the clean up too.

"I would like it to inspire the people in the community to give as well, being in Alabama, those are our neighbors, so if we can help them..you never know when something like that may happen in our community," said Darrien Teals, owner of the Georgia Firebirds.

The team will also collect supplies at Brodie field (Eastside) in Tifton Saturday from 8am to 5pm.
