VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Rain wins the day on Thursday at the Nationwide Tour's South Georgia Classic.
Several lengthy rain delays meant that no one in the field finished 18 holes on Thursday.
The afternoon groups never got close to starting their first rounds.
Nicholas Thompson is leading at -5 through 11 holes.
Former Braves pitcher John Smoltz is +4 through 8 holes.
Smoltz was -1 before the final rain delay but then had three bogeys and one double bogey on four straight holes.
The Nationwide Tour hopes to finish 72 holes by Sunday.
Nationwide Tour Tournament Director Jim Duncan said. "The main thing right is that we're kind of going to playing pretty much until dark. Tomorrow night and Saturday night and hopefully get to a position where we'll have a Sunday afternoon final round 4."
The first round will resume early Friday morning at Kinderlou Forest.
