Dogs seized may have been used for fighting

Albany Police are working to find out whether dogs seized from a southeast Albany home Monday afternoon were used for dog fighting.

Animal control picked up at least five dogs in the 800-block of Rood Street.

They say some had visible marks consistent with dog fighting.

A concerned resident tipped off police after spotting an injured dog. It was a dangerous operation for officers.

"The agents came out to check the status of that dog, while outside the dogs began to fight and the agent was trying to secure the animal that was being attacked," said Cpl. Schemika Foster, Albany Police Dept.

The animal control officers were not hurt.

No charges have been filed, but police call this an active dog fighting investigation.
