ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Dougherty County Commission appoints all members of the Hospital Authority.
That authority was a major topic of conversation at the county commission meeting. Commissioner John Hayes joined the Hospital Authority a couple months ago.
He brought up questions about the difference between the Hospital Authority and the Phoebe Hospital Board.
Commissioners also asked the county attorney to make sure they are abiding by all guidelines in relation to the authority.
"We all have a right to know," said Dougherty County Commissioner, John Hayes. "When we make appointments we need to know where did it end, and where is that accountability. I don't know if we all found ourselves sure of that, so the only way to determine that was to talk about it."
Commissioners also asked questions and discussed the exact role of the Hospital Authority. Hayes explained that Phoebe leased out the assets from the Hospital Authority back in 1990.
He says it makes decisions regarding hospital assets but has less to do with its actual operation.
