VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The South Georgia Classic has once again attracted the top players on the Nationwide Tour this week at Kinderlou Forest.
The pros started arriving Monday to begin their preparations for this week's tournament.
The one name that is generating the most attention for this year's South Georgia Classic isn't even a member of the Nationwide Tour, yet.
Former Braves pitcher John Smoltz, an avid golfer, has been given a sponsor's exemption for this event.
Smoltz's appearance is creating interest for the tournament not only here in south Georgia but across the nation.
Tournament director David Fox said. "National media we have got a lot people requesting interviews. Just a lot of exposure that we haven't had in the past. It is first PGA sanctioned event. We are just happy he is going to make his first event here in Valdosta."
The first round is Thursday at Kinderlou Forest.
