Firefighters in Sylvester will soon be able to purchase some new equipment thanks to a federal grant.
Some of the $111,000 will go toward an accountability system to help track Sylvester firefighters when they're on the scene of a fire to make sure everyone is safe.
The grant will also help pay for annual physicals, immunizations, and upgraded fitness equipment to help make sure firefighters stay healthy.
"With limited personnel that we have available they have to do more work with less people and it allows them to be in better shape and more prepared for the job and hopefully in turn it leads to a safer firefighter," said Sylvester Fire Chief Jody Yarbrough.
They hope to start getting some of that equipment by next month.
