The Secretary of State is warning business owners that someone is trying to scam them out of their personal information.

Right now is the renewal period for professional licenses. Scammers are calling businesses claiming to be from the Professional Licensing Board and offering to process the renewal. They ask for a Social Security Number, bank account number, and related passwords. One Albany business owner told us he's not fooled by people looking for easy money.

"The state would never call over the phone for that kind of information, everything they would do would be either through email or regular mail," said Louis Bernard, The Warehouse Manager.

The Professional License Board reminds you never to give out your social security number or bank account information to a solicitor. They say the best way to renew your professional license is online.
