Kirk Smith will run for Albany Mayor

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  One candidate has formally announced he's running for mayor of Albany.

Kirk Smith is setting up a campaign headquarters and has filed paperwork with the state ethics commission to begin fund raising. He owns Smith Commercial Cleaning and says the mayor's position should be more than ribbon cuttings and meetings.

"A Mayor has to be a person that, that makes things happen. I'm going to be a multi-task mayor to the point where we're going to handle issues of crime, jobs, and all the issues that are making Albany a dark area," said Kirk Smith, Albany Mayoral Candidate.

Smith welcomes opponents to the race and expects it to be a hard fought campaign. Ward Two City Commissioner Dorothy Hubbard told us she's considering running. Ward Three Commissioner Christopher Pike expects to make a decision in a few weeks. Mayor Willie Adams announced recently he will not run for re-election.
