Tree crushes car in Albany

ALBANY,  GA (WALB) -  Crews stayed busy Thursday picking up and removing trees and debris that were tossed around during Wednesday's storm. One Albany woman is stuck using a rental car because a tree fell and crushed her SUV.

A huge tree in Mary Minners' front yard on South Van Buren Street split Wednesday and toppled over on top of her vehicle that she had parked in her driveway.

Minners said it happened early, before the storm even picked up in Albany. All it took was a strong gust of wind to knock it down. When she looked out her window she saw the big mess.

"I'm thankful that it just hit my truck and not my house. And I wasn't in the truck when it happened, so. It wasn't new but it's paid for and it's mine and it was running. I mean, it's everything it's all I got," said Mary Minners.

Minners said the tree that fell was actually struck by lightening last year.

Now she's worried about other tall trees in her yard. She plans to get crews to cut down a few other old and rotting trees when they come to remove the one that crushed her vehicle.

Minners is just thankful no one was hurt and says her set of wheels can be replaced.
