VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  Two men are jail charged with robbing and sexually assaulting two guests at a Valdosta motel.

Investigators say 24-year old Cody Mitchell and Herbert Johnson broke into a room at the Valdosta Inn early Saturday morning, assaulted a man and a woman and fired a gun at one of the victims.

Johnson got away but Mitchell barricaded himself in a room when police showed up.

Officers tried to negotiate with him but ended up forcing their way in after several hours.

Johnson was arrested later at Ashley Oaks motel.

"From 5 a.m. to about 9:45ish, it was pretty tense because we did not know who was in the room," said Valdosta Police Capt. Bobbi McGraw.

Mitchell had an escape warrant from Florida and an active arrest warrant for felony criminal damage to property in Valdosta.

Mitchell is charged with rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault, and two counts of armed robbery.

Johnson is charged with two counts of armed robbery.
