ALBANY, GA (WALB) - South Georgia insurance agents are angry that former Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine issued himself several licenses to sell insurance just before he left office.
They say more needs to be done to prevent that from happening again.
State leaders accuse Oxendine of abuse of power. Oxendine claims he has more than enough experience regulating the industry to qualify for the licenses without going through the normal certification process.
Agent Jay Kimbro studied the insurance industry in college, but still had to pass required tests and must go through continuing education to keep his certification.
"He has made people aware of some things that need to be changed, you know to ensure that something like this does not happen in the future and I'm confident that Commissioner Hudgens will do just that," said Kimbro.
Kimbro says the tests agents must pass are challenging and says they should be to make sure agents serve clients well. He hopes Oxendine will have to pass the tests to keep his licenses.
