Law men alert for irrigation thefts

By Jim Wallace - bio | email

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -   Dougherty County Police get their first report of the theft of copper wire off an irrigation pivot system. But they are concerned that more thefts will be found in the coming weeks.

Eddy Henderson discovered his irrigation pivot, in a field off Lily Pond Road, had been striped of 700 feet of electrical wiring sometime in the last three weeks.

Investigators say last year, several surrounding counties saw a big increase in the number of irrigation pivot wire thefts, and they think more thefts could be found by farmers checking their systems after the winter months.

Henderson estimated the cost of the theft at more than $2500.

If you have any information about this theft, call CRIME STOPPERS at 229-436-TIPS.
