VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Police are looking for an escaped inmate they say assaulted a Valdosta man and stole his car.
Investigators say 20-year old Darrell Mims hit Olia Lloyd in the face, took his wallet and car keys, then jumped into Lloyd's pontiac and took off.
It happened outside a home on Giddens Drive in Valdosta Monday afternoon. Officers stopped the car a little later, and Mims got out and ran.
"It's kind of scary especially when you look up and see all these cops you might see one or two cops come through here but not a whole bunch of cops," said witness Sherlene Davis.
Mims was an inmate at the Cook County Jail. He escaped from an Adel work detail in December. He's wanted for escape and probation violation there. Mims is black, Five feet five inches tall and 140 pounds. Call 9-1-1 if you see him.
