ALBANY, GA (WALB) -    Students at Merry Acres Middle Magnet School for the Medical Arts got a look Tuesday at what it will be like to join the career force.

Their career fair theme was learning today, earning tomorrow. Students in the Dougherty County Schools are urged to begin thinking about a possible career as early as Kindergarten. It's reinforced with possible pathways students can take at the various schools. Tuesday students got a chance to talk to chefs, medical professionals, and more about potential careers.

"I was looking at martial arts, Taekwondo, Juvenile Justice, police department, fire fighter and chef," said Briana Harpe, a Merry Acres student.

"It's never too early to start and once again they're going to make some important decisions. Right now we're in the process of making sure that they have a six year plan for high school and that would include making sure they're ready for post secondary education as well," said Traci Price, the school's counselor.

Counselors say some of the jobs these students will choose haven't even been created yet, which is why they encourage them to pick a field of interest and pursue studies in those areas.
