ALBANY, GA (WALB) - South Georgia businesses learned the proper procedures for hiring and firing employees as part of the Georgia Department of Labor's quarterly education seminars.
AB&T's Director of Human Resources and Marketing says businesses don't take enough time to consider who they're looking for when they make a hire. He says people are often hired on what they know, or their skills, versus who they are. He says from hiring to firing, all the pieces should fit together.
"It all has to work together, companies don't radically change their expectations so you want the employee or the future employee to know what your expectations are to understand them and then to agree yes, this is a place that I want to work and I think I could meet the expectations of this employer and their concepts and values and mine are in line," said Jimmy Lindsey, AB&T Sr. Vice President, Human Resources Director.
He says, employees shouldn't be blind-sided by a firing and should be given the chance to correct their actions and attitude. If employees get the right training and get off on the right foot and understands what's expected of them, it can be a good employee, employer relationship.
