ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Assistant City Manager James Taylor will serve as Interim city manager while a search is conducted for a successor for Al Lott.

In a story we broke, Al Lott resigned yesterday afternoon, effective March 2nd.

The commission formally accepted his resignation this morning, and then immediately voted for Taylor to take the Helm.  Taylor will begin his role as interim city manager March 3rd.

Taylor said, "I am happy about the opportunity, I look forward to it.  I think the city has come a long way, I think there is much to be done and I look forward to doing what I can to help the city get there."

Mayor Willie Adams said, "It was the consensus of the group that Colonel Taylor, in our opinion, would serve effectively in that role until we got a permanent city manager."

Taylor and co-Assistant City Manager Wes Smith have both applied for the city manager job.

Close to 60 people submitted applications.

Commissioner Jon Howard was the only person who voted against Taylor being selected Interim Manager.
