ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A budget battle is brewing in Washington over a program leaders in Albany say helps our community tremendously.

President Obama's budget proposal released today would increase spending for Ameri Corps. Many Republicans want to end the community service program.

In Albany, Ameri Corps cadets works with the police department, and the mayor wants to keep the program.

Ameri Corps cadets earn money for college by agreeing to work on projects that address critical needs in communities across the country.
