VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta is one of seven cities taking part in the project.
Solar panels were installed in and around the industrial park.
Each 3-foot by 5-foot panel can generate about 200 watts of electricity. Georgia Power and the Electric Power Research Institute are conducting an 18 month study to find out how feasible solar power really is.
"It'll help us help our customers we'll be able to give them some insight into what kind of performance they could expect from one of these panels if they wanted to install one on their business or even on their home," said Georgia Power Distribution Engineer.
Georgia Power says selecting seven cities for the project allows them to evaluate a variety of conditions including temperature, cloud cover, and solar intensity.
